Institute Diversity and the Office of the Vice Provost for Graduate Education and Faculty Development at Georgia Tech will co-sponsor a four-part webinar learning series entitled, ‘Hiring A Diverse Faculty,’ this fall. These webinars will be conducted by renown scholars Dr. Estela Mara Bensimon and Dr. Shaun Harper of the University of Southern California’s Center for Race and Equity and Center for Urban Education.
Attendance at all four webinars is ideal, but at least one faculty nominee from each active search committee should attend a webinar so the takeaways may be shared with other search committee members.
Each webinar will be held from noon-1:30 p.m. on the following dates with the following topics:
- Tuesday, September 24 - Innovative Recruitment Method: Learn about various strategies, including a new online platform called PRISM, that can be utilized to recruit racially diverse talent to meet the needs of your institution. (Registration for this webinar has closed.)
- Thursday, September 26 - Job Announcements: Explore how language can be used throughout a job announcement to communicate that racial equity is a core value of the institution and that it seeks candidates who have the knowledge and experience to support educational excellence for minority students. (Registration for this webinar has closed.)
- Monday, September 30 - Implicit and Explicit Bias: Define and recognize implicit and explicit bias and their consequences, and actively engage in research-tested practices that prevent bias in the search and hiring processes. (Registration for this webinar has closed.)
- Wednesday, October 2 - Job interviews: Learn how to design an interview process to assess candidates’ knowledge of race-conscious practices and the ways in which they have exercised agency to support racial equity. (Registration for this webinar has closed.)
Participants will have the opportunity to debrief with facilitation led by a Georgia Tech faculty member after each session. Lunch will also be provided.
